Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how OpenCutoff ("we", "us") collects and uses information when you use the Service. OpenCutoff is operated independently by Jay Shende. By using OpenCutoff, you also agree to our Terms of Service.

Information we collect

Account data

When you register or sign in, we collect:

• Name and email address (email/password registration or Google OAuth profile fields)
• Authentication-related identifiers managed by our auth provider (Better Auth), such as session tokens and OAuth account linkage

Optional profile

If you complete your profile, we may store:

• Gender
• Caste group
• Target percentile

These fields are optional and used to personalize planning features (for example explore and dashboard insights).

Watchlist

When you save colleges or branches to your watchlist, we store those selections so they appear across your sessions.

Session and audit metadata

When audit logging is enabled via AUDIT_LOG_ENABLED (Module 14 — off by default), we may record limited activity metadata such as page views, searches, explore runs, logins, and admin actions. This helps operate and secure the platform. When audit logging is disabled, those events are not written.

How we use information

We use the information above to:

• Authenticate you and keep your session secure
• Provide watchlist, profile, explore, and related features
• Operate, maintain, and improve the Service
• Communicate about account or security matters when needed

Google OAuth

If you choose "Continue with Google", Google shares basic profile information (such as name and email) according to Google's policies and the scopes we request. We use that information only to create or sign in to your OpenCutoff account.

Hosting and storage

OpenCutoff is typically hosted on cloud infrastructure (for example Vercel). Application data is stored in a PostgreSQL database. Providers process data only as needed to run the Service.

No sale of personal data

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with third parties for their marketing.

Data retention

We retain account, profile, and watchlist data while your account is active. Audit logs, when enabled, may be retained according to configured retention settings and then purged.

Account deletion

To request deletion of your account and associated personal data, contact the operator at jayshende1709@gmail.com. We will process reasonable deletion requests subject to any legal retention needs.

Children's privacy

OpenCutoff is intended for students and families planning engineering admissions. If you believe a minor's data was submitted without appropriate consent, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy by revising this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be reflected here; continued use after updates constitutes acceptance.
